Cereal Filler from Kecol

A major breakfast cereal manufacturer needed to increase production of a new jam filled product.

The Issue

Existing methods of emptying jam containers into the production system were too slow and messy, with difficulties in handling the required volumes of jam with the existing 200 litre drums.

The Solution

Kecol designed and built two 'Megaprime' pneumatic drum emptying pump systems capable of transferring viscous jam from 1 tonne bulk containers at up to 60 kgs per minute. A changeover panel was also supplied to allow uninterrupted supply of jam to the line.

The Outcome

Production rates and product quality have improved with a reduction in wastage and improvements in factory safety due to reduction in drum handling.

New Pharmaceutical Cream

A major pharmaceutical company needed to transfer four new creams, of various viscosities, from holding vessels to a pressurised chimney of a filling machine.

The Issue

The existing pumping equipment would not handle the more viscous creams and fill weights were not consistent. Also, there were health & safety concerns regarding the use of 350 litre capacity conical holding vessels with operators having to manually scrape residual deposits of product from the vessels.

The Solution

Working closely with the customer, Kecol designed a system based around the Series H800 Maxiprime, which would accommodate the larger 300 litre drums. The system included a full polycarbonate/stainless steel guard enclosure, a drum girdle and jacking castors. Kecol also supplied 350 litre pharmaceutical quality drums and drum bogeys.

The Outcome

The system transferred all of the required products, including the most viscous, at the required rate. The H & S issues were removed due to a guarding system designed to the customer's specifications. The customer highlighted that "fill weights had never been so consistent".
